European Thermal Heritage Day (Spa, 12th October)

In 2018 the EHTTA Scientific Committee established the 12th of October as the European Thermal Heritage Day. The first edition was celebrated in Budapest, coinciding with the 100th Anniversary of Hotel Gellért, and the second edition was celebrated in Spa (Belgium), just after the EHTTA General Assembly.

The event was structured into an official opening, followed by a panel of conferences dedicated to present cases of best practices at and two roundtables. In the first one, "Memories", the participants reflected about the evolution of thermal baths in the last decades. During the second one, "Thermal Heritage and Future", representatives of the new generations reflected about the future of the sector from different perspectives.

With the occasion of the event, the Scientific Committee presented the book "Spa: a concept to be re-defined", a reflection about the meaning of the word "spa" in different languages, the various terms to talk about thermal natural mineral waters and how thermal resources are protected by the different national legislations.
