Visit to Baile Herculane

Between July 18 and 21, Mario Crecente, as President of the Scientific Committee of the European Historic Thermal Towns Association visited the town of Baile Herculane to analyse the thermal cultural resources of this Romanian city and, especially, the current state of the Neptune baths. Bibliography and historical references about this building was already studied in 2016, on occasion of an analysis on the abandoned thermal heritage in Europe, within the framework of the Thermal Heritage of Europe Atlas project.

This fieldwork was part of a visit by an international delegation that was also made up of Werner Henn (councillor of Baden-Baden), Lisa Poetschki (the Great Spa Towns of Europe representative from Baden-Baden) and Hans Hornyk (the Great Spa Towns of Europe representative from Baden bei Wien).

The delegation had also a meeting with the mayor, Cristian Miclău, and a group of municipality technicians, to present them the objectives of EHTTA, as well as its projects and events. Besides, there was a meeting with Oana Chirilă (Locus Association), who will participate in the International Congress on Thermal Tourism organised by EHTTA in September and coordinated by Mario Crecente. In this event, Oana will talk about actions to increase awareness about the cultural value of Neptune Baths and projects to save the building from the ruin.  More information about the congress: https://thethermalcongress.com/
