900 years of Ribeira Sacra

On August 21, the Monastery of Santa María de Montederramo hosted the celebration of the 900th anniversary of the first documentary reference to Ribeira Sacra. In August 1124, the Queen Teresa of Portugal donates to the Monastery of Montederramo the site of “Rovoyra Sacrata”.

Organized by the Ribeira Sacra Tourism Consortium, the event was attended by representatives of various public and private entities, as well as the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Xunta de Galicia, promoter of the Ribeira Sacra World Heritage nomination, and Mario Crecente, its coordinator.

During the event, the participants made a review of the actions carried out in the cultural landscape in recent years, the next steps of the candidacy and the participatory process in development. Attendees also enjoyed the reading of the text “Montederramo, 900 August after”, written by José Miguel Andrade Cernadas, professor of Medieval History at the USC.
