Café of Europe “EHTTA: Aquae urbesque condunt”

Last 12 May the European Historic Thermal Towns Association (EHTTA) organised in São Pedro do Sul (Portugal) a new edition of the Café of Europe. The specific title “EHTTA: Aquae urbesque condunt”, was taken from Natural History by Pliny the Elder and means “Water founds cities”.

The event was focused on exploring the origins of some of the EHTTA´s Historic Thermal Towns, and how their Roman origins still draw visitors to our towns today.  The venue for the event, the Roman bath of São Pedro do Sul, that has been recently refurbished was the perfect location to reflect on this topic.

We share with you the opening conference, made by Mario Crecente who, as Vice President of the EHTTA Scientific Committee, proposed the main theme for this edition of the Café of Europe. In the first part of the video he exposes the purposes of the event, presents the thermal towns identified in the Peutinger Map and reflects on the opportunity that Thermal Heritage represents today for the cultural, social and economic revitalization of many towns. In the second part of the video you can enjoy the final closing discussion among all the speakers.
