May, the month of flowers
In May, the month of flowers, we want to remember the figure of Antonio Lagares Canosa, whose plantation filled with color and aroma the place occupied today by the Barrio de las Flores. In addition to being a councilor in A Coruña between 1931 and 1936, Antonio Lagares Canosa was the creator of the largest flower plantation in the city. On the basis of that plantation, it was born one of the leading companies in the sector in Galicia, Flores Consuelo Obdulia.
His grandchildren keep all the notes about the plantations of the early twentieth century, with indication of seeds, dates and places. For all these reasons, as well as the photographs and memories, Antonio Lagares Canosa is well worth this little tribute, written from the corner of the city that he himself used to cultivate a hundred years ago.
Barrio de las Flores continues to flourish every spring, delighting all the neighbors who walk through its Park and its green spaces, truly privileged to have nature at the doors of our houses and our offices.
