Restoration and Adaptation Project of the Setting of the Santo Anxo Building.

Proyectos

Field of Action: Ourense

Customer: Ourense Council

Subject: Basic and Execution. Urbanisation

Description:

The field of action of this project is located in the O Couto neighbourhood, in Ourense, and includes the streets Ervedelo, Vila Real and Ensino, as well as the courtyard located between the Santo Anxo building and the Portugal Avenue. As a result of the analysis work, two perpendicular roads to Ensino, Goya Street and the connecting road to Dalí Street, were incorporated.

The project proposes the valuation of two properties: the Santo Anxo building, designed by the architect VáquezGulías, and the building of the Fundación Villanueva, now restored to be used as a municipal service centre. This valuation could be attained through the intervention and adaptation of surrounding public areas, in order to achieve a homogeneous image, to increase the quality of public spaces, and to offer a friendlier city.

The first phase that will be executed includes actions on streets Ensino and Ervedelo, as well as the square of the Fundación Villanueva. The handling of the main axis of Ensino Street basically consists in a partial and progressive pedestrianisation proposal. The surface finishing of the street will be made of granite cobbles combined with transverse basalt elements following the sequence of a piano keyboard. These pieces may have different functions, being raised to form a bench, being part of the signalling, etc., and will be disintegrated in the contact areas of granite stone in Erveledo Street and the square of the Fundación Villanueva.
