A future for the land: Cultural Landscapes, Rural Management, and Geographic Information Systems

Field of action: International

Customer: Juana de Vega Foundation

Subject: Rural Management. Cultural Landscapes. Geographic Information Systems.

Description:

At request of the Juana de Vega Foundation, Crecente Asociados organised the Workshop: “A future for the land: Cultural Landscapes, Rural Management, and Geographic Information Systems”, that was held in Santo Estevo de Ribas de Sil Parador on the 8th and 9th of November 2018.

Rural management, depopulation, and the role of new technologies in landscape protection were the key issues on which presentations, debates, and visits were made for a better understanding of the territory.

This Workshop was attended by international specialists and local experts, each of them with a very different profile. This allowed enriching the debate and tackling the presented problems from a holistic and multi-criteria perspective.

The main conclusion was the need of creating a long-term strategy capable of integrating all the perceptions and that, beginning in Ribeira Sacra, could become a referent for other areas.

In December, the dossier of the main results (available at: http://juanadevega.org/site/assets/files/3952/rsconclusions.pdf) was presented in the Museum of the Galician People. It is the prelude of a monographic publication, that will be supported by the Juana de Vega Foundation and that will be launched at the end of 2019.
