The Thermal Atlas of Europe

The thermal atlas of europe was presented in the European Parliament in Strasbourg last 15th September in an act organized by the European Historic Thermal Towns Association, and the intergroup “European Tourism Development, Cultural Heritage, Ways of Saint James, and another cultural routes”  hosted by MEP Millán Mon, and MEP Silvia Costa.

the atlas of Europe is an initiative for the study and dissemination of the Thermal Heritage of Europe. This database is structured in a Geographic Information System and organized around 15 categories (municipality, springs, fountains, spas, hotels, villas, leisure, landscape, services, industry, research, immaterial, events, image and tourism) to facilitate comparison at various scales.

The prototype study has been developed initially for the cities of Mondariz Balneario in Spain, and Bath in United Kingdom, representing two very different cases of thermal towns by scale, history and typology, in a pilot project to test and prove the data model.

This initiative was born in the Scientific Committee of the European Historic Thermal Towns Association and the European Route of Historical Thermal Towns. The project has been developed by Crecente asociados including a multidisciplinary team of experts in thermalism, heritage, landscape, urbanism and tourism.
